Phyto-purification

Aquatiris is a national network specialising in ecological sanitation, without a tank or emptying. We use the principle of phyto-purification for the natural treatment of water from homes not connected to the mains drainage system. We also assist our customers in the study of the soil in their home, as well as in the execution of the work.

How does phyto-purification work?

Phyto-purification is a set of natural techniques for treating wastewater using plants. More specifically, it is a method of treating wastewater using a combination of micro-organisms and plants in an ecosystem specially created for the purpose.

Our network specialises in the use of this technique which enables the treatment of metals, nitrates and phosphates which are the main water pollutants. In other words, the purpose of the phyto-purification method that we use is to destroy the infectious biological agents present in the wastewater from your home.

The functioning principle behind phyto-purification is simple. We create a filter of plants designed to collect the wastewater from your home. Thanks to aerobic bacteria, the organic matter present in this wastewater is transformed into mineral matter that can be assimilated by the purifying plants. This transformation is due to the fact that these aerobic bacteria, which generally do not give off unpleasant odours, need oxygen. It is this oxygen that the plants we put in your plant filter provide in return.

In addition to providing oxygen in the filter, these aquatic plants also produce a large quantity of colloidal substances that have the capacity to treat nitrates and phosphates. As for clogging, this is avoided thanks to the mechanical action of the wind on the plants, more specifically on the roots. The action of the wind causes the roots to move, thus aerating the substrate.

Which plants for phyto-purification?

The application of the wastewater purification method by phyto-purification requires a careful selection of the plants that will make up your pond. Our company chooses plants that are capable of effectively absorbing pollutants. To do this, our specialists choose plant species based on numerous parameters. In addition to their purifying power, the plants are chosen according to their sensitivity to pollution. We also take into account the leaf and root structure of these plants.

In addition, local varieties are meticulously studied and selected in favour of biodiversity. Our non-collective ecological sanitation company also chooses plants capable of becoming bio-indicator species over time. Our specialists opt for species that favour hydraulic flows as these greatly limit the risk of substrate clogging.

Among the purifying plants most used by our company for the natural treatment of wastewater from your home, we can mention:

  • Reeds
  • Bulrushes
  • Purple loosestrife
  • Water mint

Other phyto-purification plants can also be used for the ecological sanitation of wastewater from your home. To see the list, just take a look at our ‘Sanitation Garden’ page.

Advantages and practical advice

Due to clogging, conventional purification systems such as septic tanks, sand filters or dispersal have a limited lifespan. Indeed, dispersal purification systems have a maximum lifespan of 10 years, while a maximum of 2 years is required for clay soil and a maximum of 8 years for sand filters. Phyto-purification is therefore a more sustainable ecological alternative to conventional purification systems. It is also a more economical purification system, but also more aesthetic.

In fact, in addition to being ecological, the plant filters that we create offer a colourful, aesthetic and lively visual effect. It is also a system that makes you more responsible for your waste. What’s more, the water can be used to water your ornamental garden. It is loaded with micro-organisms that are easily assimilated by plants. This system therefore allows you to save some water if you have a garden at home.

As for the filter that our experts create, it has a real grip on the ground in both suburban and rural areas. Finally, it is a purification system that can be installed easily and quickly, whatever the configuration of your house. By placing your trust in a company specialising in ecological sanitation like ours, you benefit from quality work.
